| Small organizations and small projects often experience problems in applying the CMM to their development efforts. Because of their limited resources due to size, these small groups must satisfy CMM goals using practices alternative to those of large organizations and projects and, therefore, often alternative to stated CMM practices. This presentation
will discuss many of the alternative practices required to satisfy CMM goals on small projects and in small organizations using case studies drawn from several organizations pursuing CMM-based process improvement
initiatives. The examples will depict how the practices of the projects in these organizations differ from CMM practices and what an organization or project needs to do to ensure that the practices meet CMM goals. The focus of the presentation will be on the key process areas at Level 2. Interest in small organization and small project issues has always been high at SEPG conferences, and methods to overcome the problems these groups face, especially with practices that have been
successfully deployed in actual organizations, provides valuable guidance to attendees in their software process improvement efforts.
