Steve
McConnell is CEO and Chief Software Engineer
at Construx Software where he divides his time
between leading custom software projects, consulting
to companies in the shrink-wrap industry, and
writing books and articles. Steve is the author
of Code Complete (1993) and Rapid Development
(1996), both winners of Software Development
magazine's Jolt award for outstanding software
development books of their respective years,
Software Project Survival Guide (1998), and
After the Gold Rush (1999). Steve has worked
in the desktop software industry since 1984
and has expertise in rapid development methodologies,
project estimation, software construction practices,
performance tuning, system integration, and
third-party contract management. Outside work,
Steve volunteers his time as Editor in Chief
of IEEE Software and senior reviewer for IEEE
Computer magazine. He is a member of IEEE Computer
Society and ACM. Steve earned a master's degree
in software engineering from Seattle University
and now occasionally acts as an adjunct faculty
member. He taught Software Contract Management
(SE 533) Spring term 1997. Steve also earned
a bachelor's degree from Whitman College in
